From July 3-5, the 48th annual Folsom Pro Rodeo kicks off each night, offering the die-hard cowboy and cowgirl their fix of snorting bulls and bucking broncos, and families out for a good time a showing they won’t forget for years to come.
The rodeo begins nightly at 7 p.m. at the Dan Rusell Rodeo Arena in the Folsom City Park with timed events such as steer wrestling, followed at 8:15 p.m. with riding events such as bull riding. Throughout the night, between events, organizers have set up mutton busting – which has children riding sheep – barrel racing and clown antics. Also on display will be John Payne, the “One-Armed Bandit,” showing his horsemanship as he rounds up buffalo and horses into his elevated trailer.
The seven-event PRCA sanctioned radio includes saddle and bareback bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, team roping and barrel racing.
As the rodeo dwindles down each night, Mike’s Golden Spike Saloon will host live music on the rodeo grounds with drinks aplenty available.
Each night the show will end with in-arena fireworks to celebrate the holiday Independence Day weekend.
