Mark Williams to Protest Attorney General

A painting titled "T'anks to Mr. Bush!" by attorney-artist Stephen Pearcy, is displayed in the Department of Justice cafeteria in Sacramento, Calif., Tuesday, July 19, 2005.

The tone in the bully’s voice was almost exuberant; it was certainly smug and self-satisfied.

The bully is a creep named Steven Pearcy, and he was trying to buffalo his way onto my Sacramento talk show on KFBK 1530 AM to bask in the glory of the attention he felt due him.

Pearcy was boasting about California Attorney General Bill Lockyer’s endorsement of his vile bile, and now Steve Pearcy wanted to take me to task for my role in organizing what is now my second mobilization of the general public to denounce him.

For those of you who are not acquainted with Pearcy; the cowardly, pasty, frail, control-freak Berzerkley Attorney, he is the same low-life who owns a modest house in middle-of-the-road Sacramento.  Pearcy’s co-conspirator is his mouse-like wife (who is also an attorney, and sits from time to time as a pro-tem judge in Sacramento County Small Claims Court) and the two use Sacramento as an escape from the rarified air of Berzerkley’s liberal paradise, and the opportunity to get dirty with the working-stiff savages and middle-class serfs down here in the fields beneath their imaginary castle.

He and the mousey-missus set off a short firestorm with their U.S. soldier hanged-in effigy in their front yard display a few months ago.  Apparently they felt the need to kick it up a notch when the Palestinian Flag hung in a window facing a Jewish neighbor’s house proved insufficient to inflame the community.  At my urging, a military family filed a hate-crime complaint against the bully, a protest was staged and the bully was ultimately forced to alter his public display of apparent personal psychosis.

Rebuked, but seeming perversely energized by the public embarrassment and beating he suffered, Pearcy is now back.

This time he is not alone.  He has a “work of art” on display at the California Department of Justice.  Pearcy’s “art” consists of a crudely scribbled drawing of an American Flag, in the shape of the United States, being flushed down a toilet.

Aside from looking like it was drawn by some poor unfortunate victim of mental retardation or severe head-injury, it is indistinguishable from similar works of “art” that may be found in poorly maintained public restroom stalls.  But Pearcy’s “art” is one of several just like it, each displaying its own particular bigotry.

There are “works of art” depicting current events as examples of acts of genocide by Jews and Christians alike.  In one, Boston’s Old North Church is a tank leaving death and destruction in its wake.  In another, an angry mob of corpses storm a ravaged U.S. Capitol Building over the caption “VOILA the ENEMY.” In yet another, a bombed-out White House is celebrated, as is a shackled and blood-soaked cowering Lady Justice in yet another.

I refused to let Pearcy on the air.  In my opinion he is a 98-pound weakling bully who compensates and gets his jollies from inflicting emotional pain on those vulnerable, something I refuse to enable.  Besides, he is not the story here, he is but a bit player in a larger story, one of you and I being forced to not just tolerate offensive opinions, but to fund and support sedition on the part of public officials sworn to the contrary in a time of war.

The story here is the endorsement of these disgusting piles of puke by California State Attorney General Baghdad Bill Lockyer who issued a statement saying that he was “honored” to host these works.  “Honored”!  Lockyer even praised the display’s “style” and “beauty.”

Likewise, the director of the taxpayer-funded California Arts Council, Muriel Johnson, declared these works “wonderful” and gushed in a press release over how “impressed” she was when she first viewed this garbage.

It goes without saying that an “artist” who sought to flush a figurative Qur’an down the toilet on Baghdad Bill’s wall would be rebuffed.  Indeed, such a work would never get that far.  The self-hating, self-appointed high priests of the official definition of “art” at the taxpayer funded California Arts Council (did I mention that the California Arts Council is taxpayer funded?) would never accept such a piece in the first place.  These carriers of the societal mental illness known as “political correctness” (a cultural version of full-blown AIDS, only way more deadly) would toss Norman Rockwell out on his ear for being a right-wing kook, if not a purveyor of smut.

Move America Forward (www.moveamericaforward.org) and I are working to counter this disgusting and damaging use of taxpayer money to undermine our society.

Here is what you need to do:

    1) Join us at Baghdad Bill’s office (1300 I street) Thursday July 28th at 4:00 PM.  Bring your own pro-America work of art to contribute to our own display which will remain up in front of the building until 10:00 PM when it will be broken down and the pieces sent to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    2) Call Baghdad Bill directly at (916) 324-5487 and let him know what you think of his “honor”.

    3) Contact your state legislators and demand that the California Arts Council be de-funded and abolished, and that every penny, direct as well as that provided in-kind to produce this outrage be refunded to the taxpayers at once.

Our usual brush-off denial of the condition of our state – a nervous laugh while saying “Hey, it’s California” – no longer works.  Men, women and children die every time creeps like Pearcy and his subversive friends like the California Arts Council and Baghdad Bill lend their aid and comfort to the enemy.

It must stop and only you have the power to stop it.  I’ll see all of you on Thursday, July 28, 2005 in front of the California Department of Justice at 1300 I Street.  Let’s show the world that Bill Lockyer and Steve Pearcy don’t speak for Sacramentans.

"I am a combat veteran (have the holes in my body to prove it) I fought in Cambodia and Laos with a sog unit and I did not fight for any country I fought to stay alive as did all of us. No patriots needed to apply. I also did not get huge bonuses to re-enlist (I was drafted) I also do not support the troops in Iraq as they chose their role. For over 20 yrs they drew their pay and never felt the horrors of war, Now let this clown Mark whatever pick up a weapon and show all how brave he is ."

"Hey, Sharon... In case you did not know, our Military is VOLUNTARY. Our Soldiers are fighting for your freedom to complain. Do some research. Freedom and terror do not mix. Our Soldiers are willing to die for you. Why can't you support them?"

"It would be so refreshing to have a Liberal response to the acts of terror in the world. They do not like the response by President Bush, criticise it and complain. It seems that they would 'tolorate' the violence and welcome the acts. What does the Amerika that they would like to see look like?"

"Let me see if I have this right. The best way to support our troops is to send them a tin of cookies and slap a “Support Our Troops” bumper sticker on our car. Bringing them home to their families so they won’t have to die is un-patriotic. Got it. Bumper sticker, good. Not dying in Iraq, bad. Shame on you for asking them to die for you."

"Diana, I'm in complete agreement. It's amazing that all those flag wavers haven't a clue about what America stands for. They like to wrap themselves in the flag to spew their hateful dogma. Mark Williams and MAF should crawl back into the hell hole from which they came."

"I was at the Dept. of Justice on Thursday evening and was appalled by the bitterness and anger displayed by the Hate America crowd. And don't understand why the police allowed them to disrupt a peaceful demonstration since they had no permit. Their usual hangout is on the corner of 16th and J. Also, I'm amazed at the bitter comments placed here."

"Why so many derogatory references to mental illness on this page? And the people with the banner yesterday that said "liberalism is a mental disorder"... Especially considering the number of our soldiers in Iraq that have committed suicide, this is insulting. Let's support our troops by doing away with the stigma we place on mental illness. Let's show them that the society they're fighting for is compassionate toward the sick and vulnerable."

Playing right into his hands, Mark Williams couldn't have been a better co-conspirator by fanning the flames and spewing lame rhetoric, rather than debating the guy on the issues surrounding our nation's foreign policy."

"I've seen the painting first hand. It's disrespectful and offensive but since when has art been something people have to agree with? It's a form of expression by definition, and in a country with almost three million people from countless different backgrounds, there will always be different opinions. In a strange way it shows support for the work being done in the Middle East. After all, would Saddam Hussein have tolerated this distasteful freedom of expression? No, but this is America."
