Making the Right Turn

Marking Turn Lanes
I saw something I had a question about: I saw a patrol officer pull a woman over and tell her she had gone straight from a right turn lane. (I was on a bicycle.) This is on southbound 24th Street, near 2nd Avenue, where it goes from two lanes to one. I travel that route on a daily basis and never realized there was a right turn lane. If it is a right turn lane, shouldn’t it be signed, or is there some other way motorists are supposed to know?
Thanks, Carlos

Dear Carlos,
Thank you for writing into the blog. According to our traffic section, if there are no signs or markings on the road that would clearly indicate a “Turn Only” lane, then there isn’t one. It’s possible the officer was mistaken or the conversation was misheard. Our motor officers who have been working that intersection for stop sign violations say there is no right turn only lane there.
I hope this information helps.

Four-legged Cops?
Hi: I was wondering if Sac PD still has a mounted and K-9 unit. I heard that they where cut.
Thank You,
Silver Dog

Dear Silver Dog,
Our K-9 and mounted units have remained untouched by cuts. Both units are very valuable and will remain a part of our department.
Officer Michelle
