The Kennedy-Palin Difference
Published: January 8, 2009

Taking a brief break from swooning over our president-elect from America’s most corrupt city, the major media has gone all ga-ga over the prospect of Caroline Kennedy being appointed to replace Hillary Clinton as the junior senator from New York.

In what will likely be the first example of media bias and double standards for 2009, let us address the difference in news coverage concerning Kennedy and the former GOP vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Gov. Palin has been a member of a school board, director of a major state energy agency, mayor of a city and a state governor. In spite of this impressive curricula vitae, Gov. Palin was roundly condemned in the liberal media for being unqualified to be vice president—a job whose sole constitutional duty is to check on the president’s health each morning and preside over the United States Senate.

Compare this with the media’s hosannas and joyous fainting spells over the prospect of another Kennedy in the Senate. The media found Gov. Palin’s extensive executive experience lacking for a position that required executive experience. The same media thinks Kennedy highly qualified for a seat in the United States Senate. And just what experience qualifies her to be among the one hundred members of the “world’s greatest deliberative body”?

The answer: She was born a Kennedy.

Unlike Gov. Palin, Caroline has been elected to… nothing. Unlike Gov. Palin, Caroline has executive experience running… nothing. Were she simply “Caroline Schlossberg,” a super-rich socialite who does high tea at the Waldorf Astoria and lunches at the Carlyle – as she does – she would be on nobody’s short, or long, list for appointment to the Senate.

I expect she is a perfectly nice woman. It has been reported that after President Kennedy’s assassination, Jackie purposely raised Caroline and JFK, Jr. in Manhattan, not Hyannis Port, to be separate and removed the Kennedy family, probably in an attempt to escape the carnal and moral excesses that seem to cling to Kennedys. She has not, as Uncle Ted did, abandoned anyone to drown in the backseat of a car, so perhaps she escaped the socially deviant gene that seems to pollute that family.

But other than publishing a couple of books of other people’s poetry and other people’s children’s stories, she has accomplished very little on her own. That is not to say she wouldn’t be the world’s greatest neighbor or dinner companion.

But it most definitely is to say that her being seriously considered for a senate seat is ludicrous and, when compared to the treatment of Gov. Palin, is exhibit one in media bias and double standards.

According to our media, Sarah Palin – an independent self-made woman, successful warrior against the Alaska political establishment and overwhelmingly elected governor by actual voters – was under qualified for an office once described by its occupant as “not worth a bucket of warm spit.”

Caroline Kennedy, born into privilege, inheritor of millions of dollars, for whom the most accurate description of her accomplishments is “socialite,” is considered a dire necessity for the United States Senate.

If the drab January weather leaves you in need of amusement, run this by your liberal friends and watch them throw up more dust than an Oklahoma tornado.

The Caroline Kennedy-Sarah Palin double standard is a perfect example of why the formerly “major” media is dying so quickly. Its disappearance cannot happen soon enough, and its total vanishing will be a great day for America.
