The History of St. Patrick’s Day
You may think you know the story of St. Patrick's Day, but everything you've been told is a lie. Today, I present the true story of how this holiday come about.
It was the year 1427. The Irish were in the midst of the 43rd potato famine in as many years. To make matters worse, a stark raving lunatic from the town of Kilkenny was on the prowl. The lunactic was named Patrick Sheemish, or as residents called him, Mad Pat.
Mad Pat went about the countryside terroizing the starving Irish. He'd rob families of the few potatos they had. And, if you were unfortunate enough to have no potatos when Mad Pat came calling, he'd butcher the whole family.
The lords and nobles complained to the Duke of Ireland, Duke Owen the Angry, that they had no way to capture Mad Pat. It seems Mad Pat had the uncanny ability to steal away into the forest and disappear before anyone could stop him.
And so, Owen the Angry dispatched a secret weapon...his life long friend Patrick the Wise. Patrick the Wise was the smartest man in all the land and Owen knew that he would be able to best Mad Pat.
Patrick the Wise had a secret weapon of his own. For you see, Patrick the Wise was only wise when his gullet was filled with liquid courage...beer. And so one night, after getting completely wasted, Patrick the Wise sprung a trap for Mad Pat and ended his reign of terror.
With Mad Pat defeated the whoel of Ireland celebrated by partaking in Patrick the Wise's favorite hobby...drinking. And with Mad Pat's demise, Patrick the Wise become known instead as Sane Patrick. Over time, the name Sane Patrick was corrupted to become Saint Patrick, and today we celebrate him.
