The Governor says “I don‘t believe in gay marriage.”

Example

While it probably isn’t the strong moral stand that most of us social conservatives would like to see from the governor, at least he is standing up for the vote of the people.

MSNBC’s Hardball televised an interview with the Governor at Stanford University yesterday where Schwarzenegger declared:

I go by what the people have voted, which was Proposition 22.

He later stated:

I don‘t believe in gay marriage. I believe in partnership, domestic partnership.

This is not exactly where many of us would like to see the Governor, but it represents the political tight rope that many republicans are walking these days. Basically, they support protecting marriage in name only.

When asked about putting a constitutional amendment on the California ballot, the Governor stated:

Well, they did. The people have voted already on that issue. And we can take it back. If people are not happy with that, they can put another initiative...

I agree! If the voters of California want to change the definition of marriage, then they should put it to a vote. But that is not how the same-sex marriage advocates work. They know that everywhere same-sex marriage has been put before the voters, it has failed. This is why they have chosen to go through the liberal court system.

This may force the governor into an interesting quandary. Does he believe more in the will of the people or the will of the courts? Unfortunaely, he did indicate that he would not be willing to buck the California Supreme Court, should they decide to declare laws protecting traditional marriage as unconstitutional.

Whatever the Supreme Court, whatever the Supreme Court decides, that‘s exactly what I will stay with.

It will be interesting to see what happens....

Seeking Common Ground

NARAL Pro-Choice America and their President, Nancy Keenan have embarked upon an aggressive campaign calling on Pro-life Advocates and supporters of abortion to find common ground where they can work.

The San Francisco Chronicle Reports:

Keenan noted that NARAL recently placed full-page ads in conservative publications, including the Weekly Standard, which invited political opponents to work together to develop efforts to reduce abortions and unwanted pregnancies -- a development she said would better the lives of women and children around the world.

I have to agree with Ms. Keenan on this issue. As someone who is Pro-Life, I believe that it should be illegal to kill an unborn child. But the reality is that abortion is currently legal. Understanding this fact, I believe that it is incumbent upon us to make every effort to at least reduce the number of children being sucked down the sink. And this does not have to be mutually exclusive of our fighting to stop abortion all together.

Having said that, In order for this “coming together” to work, Ms. Keenan, NARAL and others in the Pro-Abortion movement must be willing to work with us in the following areas:

Acknowledging of the harm abortion causes. At least we must let women know of the physical and psychological risks that women face when having abortions. Also, it would be immoral to not discuss the physical pain that the unborn child experiences during this procedure. This will help women, who are considering an abortion, make a fully informed decision.

Promotion of abortion alternatives. If the goal of NARAL is truly to make abortion “legal, safe and rare”, then we must remove the barriers that have prevented discussion of alternatives to abortion during the pre-abortion counseling process.

Broader implementation of Abstinence Focused sex education. Studies show that abstinence is the ONLY Guaranteed way to prevent either unwanted pregnancies or sexually transmitted diseases.

Streamlining the adoption process and making it more affordable. Statistics show that states which have taken the most aggressive stances against abortion, are also the most likely have a complicated and costly adoption process. This must change.

I’m willing to bet that this new “common ground” theme is nothing more that a PR stunt. But if abortion advocates truly willing to find common ground, I think we should at least see how serious they are.

Exclusive Interview: Doris Matsui
Despite attacks on her complete lack of qualifications, The Wrong Blog was nonetheless able to secure an exclusive telephone interview with your new congresswoman Doris Matsui. Presented here is the text of the interview.

Congratulations on your victory, Congresswoman.

Thank you, we fought hard to win.

Really, what do you think it was that put your campaign over the top?

My last name.

Oh, so I see you've come to terms with the fact that is the only reason you won.

Of course! Don't be silly. I am well aware that there is no other reason anyone would ever vote for me. Fortunately, I counted on the voters in the 5th district being quite stupid. I was right.

Indeed you were! I mean, since it's out in the open we can laugh about it now, right?

Sure, sure. What do I care? The jackasses put me into office and I didn't have to take a stand on a single issue! I didn't debate and I didn't give any reason to vote for me...yet I won with over 60% of the vote!

Do you ever plan on coming back to Sacramento?

Why should I? I will never, ever get voted out of office. To tell you the truth, I am probably not even going to show up when Congress convenes. I mean, why bother?

Yeah, I don't know why you would. You know, the other day I wrote a fictional piece about how I could win the presidency if I had the same name as GWB.

Too bad you don't, you could really go far in politics.

Does it bother you at all that your constituents are apparently brain-dead? At least two thirds of them anyway?

A little. Truthfully, it is kind of frightening. To think these people actually function in daily life gives me the creeps.

But you don't ever have to see them again.

Exactly!

So do you have any plans for your new job?

Well, it turns out I don't even know how a bill becomes a law, much less how the legislaterive (sp?) branch works.

That's about it. Good luck in the House.

The what?

Drive-by petition signing photos

Roger Hedgecock, the creator of oft imitated Drive-by signings to recall Gray Davis, and founder of Hold Their Feet to the Fire is at it again. Last Thursday I was part of Roger's show on News/Talk 600 KOGO in San Diego when the Governor launched his state-wide effort to gather the signatures necessary to enact needed reforms.

Traffic was backed up for miles, from the Clear Channel radio complex on Granite Ridge Road and up onto the 15-Freeway as the Governor spent a full hour glad-handing and meeting people who turned out by the thousands to sign petitions.

Click here for photos of the event.

Arnold’s secret plan

It finally dawned on me! I got it! Eureka!

Reading about the Cashenator’s big fund-raising swing through New York and DC it finally occurred to me. Governor Schwarzenkennedy’s strategy for battling special interests that is…

…his plan is to suck up all their money and then leave them strapped for cash!

Yep. The Austrian Joke.

State Senator Gil Cedillo defends driver’s licenses for illegal aliens, tonight at 7:00 on KFBK.
