On the other hand…
Perhaps the company shouldn't be Trojan -- unaccountably, my first thought -- but a manufacturer of medical gloves. Wouldn't want to insult the Islamic world, or hand them a propaganda tool, with a manufacturer catering to radically unIslamic practices.

The Purple Finger
Mark's right. Flip the enemies of freedom the purple bird, the reference of course being to the ink-tipped index fingers jubilant Iraqis held up after voting Sunday.

Mark blogged with that flip comment yesterday. This morning I wrote an editorial (see our home page and click "Give Them the Finger"). Before I'm accused of stealing Mark's thought, I confess Mark's image must have latched into my subconscious as I slept. I'm happy to credit Mark with the image.

Someone out there ought to be creating, as suggested in the editorial, some porcelain Purple Fingers for presentation to the world's democratic heroes. As well, some company -- why does Trojan come to mind? -- ought to create a latex one-fingered glove, purple-tipped, for distribution throughout the Islamic world. Imagine the demonstrations in the streets of Tehran, Cairo, Riyadh, with people holding their purple-tipped index fingers aloft.

Certainly The Sacramento Union will get behind it.

Blacks Choosing Moral Values Over Party Values
Example

At a time when California Republican Party Leadership is trying to get away from socially conservative issues, claiming that they are too divisive. Black pastors, who have traditionally ranged from liberal to non-partisan seem to be taking a hold of them.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting of efforts by Black Pastors to encourage their congregations and other pastors to fight against the legalization of same sex marriage and to support candidates for office who’s policies are more in line with their Christian moral values.

Black Democrat leadership is reacting with concern and confusion about how to stop this movement.

"I am frightened by what is happening," said Rep. Major R. Owens, an 11-term Democratic congressman from New York who has been conferring with colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus. "Our party is in grave danger. This Republican movement is going to expand exponentially unless we do something."

Their response will inevitably be to try and frame their issues ( i.e. redistribution of wealth, expansion of abortion & redefining marriage) as moral issues. But they clearly lack the wisdom to understand a very basic truth.

Moral Values without morality has no value.
